Is UFC’s Light Heavyweight Division ‘A Joke’?

The ever-outspoken, feather-ruffling politician/fighter from Oregon, Chael Sonnen, has unsurprisingly not decided to pull his verbal jabs.

In an interview given to Fight! Magazine at last weekend’s UFC Fan Expo, Sonnen not only took shots at former Light Heavyweight Champions Tito Ortiz and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, he called out the entire light heavyweight division.

“185 pounds is the toughest division in the business,” said the real estate agent. “If you’re going to go after the belt, go after the tough one. I’d love to get a night off and go beat up some of [the UFC's light heavyweights].

For god’s sake, 205 had a karate guy that was their champion. That weight class is a joke.”

Pay Woos For MMA Professionals

It seems like the UFC, especially considering MMA is the hardest job in the world and it is a personal star driven sport is completely shafting it’s fighters.

Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson for that matter should not have made less than $1 million last night – is it just all my friends and I or does the UFC’s revenue distribution seem to award Dana White more then the people drawing in the money?”

Out of the tens of millions of dollars a UFC event makes only 5-10% go to fighters? That seems insanely low, in the NBA for example players are guaranteed to earn at least 57% of revenues and benefits.

And their contracts aren’t reduced due to their large endorsement contracts.

UFC 114 Hyped Event a Winner

The hype generated between rivals Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans paid off with UFC generating big bucks last weekend.

UFC 114 took place Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas also aired live on pay per view and attracted a sellout crowd of just over 15,000 fans.

The exact figures will be released later this week by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The UFC has declared the event an official sellout.

It is believed that much of the events success was due to the fierce and violent trash talking that both headliners campaigned with.
