Is MMA at a Crossroads of Sporting vs. Spectacle?

While no rational mind could fault Evans for using the strategy that earned him the decision, I find it fully understandable that many feel let down in the wake of the fight.

There are those, however, who were perfectly fine with the fight. I believe we’ve found the MMA fan base at a crossroads—one between sport and spectacle.

MMA, the UFC especially, has experienced remarkably rapid growth by standing squarely in the center of this crossroads for the better part of a decade.

Good athletes participating in highly charged and brutal affairs garnered the sport’s reputation for excitement.

MMA had picked up the fallen torch left after the demise of boxing’s heavyweight division in the 90s.

Thiago Tavares pulls out of UFC 114 Due to Injury

It is being reported that Thiago Tavares has cancelled his appearance at the UFC 114 fight with Melvin Guillard because of an injury to his elbow.

It is now confirmed that Waylon Lowe has agreed to step in to face Guillard.

Guillard has won four of his last five fights, his last being a unanimous decision over Ronnys Torres at UFC 114.

Melvin appears to have finally turned the corner after being coached by famous trainer Greg Jackson to rescue his career which has been a bit rocky the last couple of years.

He will most likely arrive at this match as the heavy favorite against the UFC newbie.
