Philippines harvests 73 medals, ranks 6th in the 26th South East Asian Games

The Philippines as of Wednesday has won 15 gold, 26 silver, and 32 bronze medals with a total of 73 in the 26th Southeast Asian Games competition in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, and is currently in sixth place.

During preparations for the Philippine delegation, Philippine Sports Commission chair Richie Garcia predicted a 70 gold medal harvest for the athletes.

There are several events yet to be played like tennis, weightlifting, archery, bowling, billiards boxing, chess, equestrian, fencing, basketball, softball, baseball and dragon boat.

Meanwhile, host Indonesia is at the totem pole of medal standing with 86 gold, 64 silver and 68 bronze for a total of 218 medals.

Vietnam is far second with 52-54-59 for an overall total of 165.

Perennial overall champion Thailand which has been suffering from floods like the Philippines is in third place at 51-40-59 with a total of 150; Singapore is in fourth with 25-28-43 with 150 overall total while Malaysia ranks fifth at 25-23-43 at 96 overall count as of 7:30 p.m. Manila time.
